Engineering Manager – Transportation

$150,000–$200,000 + Bonus + Employee Ownership

We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join a growing civil engineering team in downtown Chicago.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position for a senior transportation engineer who enjoys solving difficult design problems, reviewing technical work and helping other engineers become stronger.

Rather than stepping away from engineering, you’ll become one of the office’s key technical resources — supporting engineers with complex design challenges, overseeing QA/QC and helping establish consistent standards across transportation projects.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for:

Acting as a senior technical resource for engineers and design technicians

Mentoring and developing junior and mid-level engineering staff

Providing hands-on guidance with complex transportation design challenges

Leading QA/QC reviews of plans, specifications, calculations, reports and construction documents

Reviewing roadway, stormwater, drainage and grading designs

Troubleshooting technical issues and helping remove project delivery bottlenecks

Working closely with Project Managers to ensure technical work meets scope, schedule and budget requirements

Helping establish and maintain engineering design standards and best practices

Encouraging knowledge-sharing and technical development across the Chicago engineering team

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline

Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois, or ability to obtain through reciprocity

10+ years of transportation engineering experience

Strong technical experience with roadway/highway design

Experience with stormwater, drainage and grading

Strong background reviewing engineering deliverables and leading QA/QC

Experience mentoring engineers and design technicians

Ability to troubleshoot complex engineering and design issues

Experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer highly desirable

AutoCAD Civil 3D experience beneficial
