Finance Manager

The Finance Manager is responsible for leading the finance accounting, and project accounting function for a project-based construction/engineering business environment. The role ensures accurate financial reporting, robust project accounting (including revenue recognition), compliance with Malaysian statutory requirements, and strong financial governance across large-scale construction projects.


The role partners closely with Project Leaders, Commercial, and Operations teams to support project delivery, cost control, profitability management and strategic decision-making across EPC / construction projects.


Main Duties

Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Ensure accurate and timely month-end / quarter-end / year-end closing.
  • Ensure accurate project revenue recognition (e.g., percentage of completion / IFRS 15-based accounting principles).
  • Review project P&L, balance sheet, and margin analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS) / IFRS and group accounting policies.
  • Support project audits and resolve project accounting issues with auditors.

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

  • Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecasts at project and business unit level.
  • Track project budget vs actuals, committed cost vs incurred cost.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis (cost overruns, margin erosion, productivity impacts).
  • Provide insights on project profitability, cost-to-complete (CTC), risk provisions, and contingencies.

Cash Flow & Working Capital Management

  • Manage project-level and company-wide cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning.
  • Monitor progress billings and collections, accounts receivable aging (client payments), and accounts payable and subcontractor payments.
  • Optimize working capital in a project cash cycle environment.
  • Support banking guarantees (BGs), performance bonds, and financing needs.
  • Identify and mitigate liquidity and credit risks.

Tax & Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Malaysian tax regulations, including corporate income tax, SST (Sales & Service Tax), withholding tax (WHT), and transfer pricing.
  • Coordinate tax computations with external consultants.
  • Ensure proper treatment of project-related tax exposures.
  • Manage statutory audits and liaise with auditors and regulators.

Internal Controls & Governance

  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls and financial policies.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Drive governance and continuous process improvements.

Business Partnering

  • Partner with business leaders to support business objectives.
  • Provide financial advice on business and operational matters.
  • Review project profitability and cost performance.
  • Present financial results and key risks to management.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop the finance team to achieve high performance.
  • Assign responsibilities and ensure effective workload management.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Support talent development and succession planning.

Minimum Qualification

  • Degree / Professional qualification in Accounting or Finance (ACCA / CPA / equivalent preferred).
  • Minimum 8–12 years of relevant finance and accounting experience.
  • At least 3–5 years in a managerial position.
  • Experience in project-based Finance environments (highly preferred).
  • Computer literate and experience in ERP system (SAP preferred).
  • Exposure to MNC environment or regional reporting structure is an advantage.
