Grid Engineering Manager
Location: Japan, Tokyo
Our client is a leading international developer and owner of renewable energy infrastructure with a growing portfolio of renewable energy and emerging digital infrastructure projects across Japan.
They are seeking an experienced Grid Engineering Manager to join their Technical Services team. This individual contributor role will provide technical leadership across grid connection, electrical engineering and EPC execution, supporting projects from development through construction and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead grid and electrical engineering activities across utility-scale onshore wind, solar, battery energy storage and other infrastructure projects throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop, review and manage electrical system designs, including extra-high, high and medium voltage systems, substations, cable routing and single-line diagrams.
- Manage grid connection activities, working closely with local utilities and authorities to ensure successful integration into regional and national transmission networks.
- Provide technical leadership throughout EPC execution, ensuring electrical systems comply with project specifications, industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support project development through technical evaluations, engineering studies, cost estimates and due diligence activities.
- Conduct technical site inspections, engineering assessments and quality reviews to support safe and efficient project delivery.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical and grid-related challenges, identifying practical engineering solutions to minimise project risk.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering, project management and construction teams while coordinating closely with contractors, consultants and government agencies.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate project approvals, grid applications and successful project execution.
- Drive engineering excellence by promoting high technical standards, continuous improvement and best practices across the organisation.
Experiences Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience delivering EPC renewable energy or power infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of grid connection processes and the integration of renewable energy assets into local and national electricity networks.
- Extensive knowledge of extra-high, high and medium voltage electrical systems, substations and electrical design.
- Experience preparing or reviewing electrical drawings using AutoCAD, including single-line diagrams and cable layouts.
- Familiarity with SCADA, monitoring and communication systems will be advantageous.
- Hold at least one recognised electrical engineering licence or professional certification. Equivalent certifications will be considered.
- Native or business-level Japanese is essential, with conversational English required to collaborate within an international team.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage utilities, contractors, consultants and government stakeholders.
