Legal Counsel, Southeast Asia 

Construction / Infrastructure / Water Technology 

Location: Southeast Asia | Function: Legal | Reports to: Regional Legal / General Counsel | Role type: Permanent 

Role Overview 

We are seeking a commercially minded Legal Counsel to support Southeast Asia operations across construction, infrastructure, engineering and water technology projects. The role will provide practical legal advice on contracts, tenders, compliance, governance, disputes and commercial risk, working closely with regional business and project teams. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial and project agreements, including procurement, consultancy, subcontractor, framework, NDA and settlement documentation. 
• Advise on tender reviews, contract risk, liability positions, indemnities, warranties, insurance, payment terms, termination rights and dispute resolution. 
• Support claims, pre-contentious matters and dispute strategy, including management of external counsel where required. 
• Partner with business development, project delivery, procurement, finance, HR and compliance teams to identify and mitigate legal risk. 
• Support regional compliance, corporate governance and entity management matters, including anti-bribery, sanctions, data privacy and internal approvals. 
• Develop legal templates, playbooks, policies and training to improve consistency across SEA markets. 

Key Requirements 

• Qualified lawyer with around 5–10+ years’ post-qualification experience, gained in-house, private practice or both. 
• Experience in construction, infrastructure, engineering, utilities, environmental services, water technology or project-based sectors is highly advantageous. 
• Strong commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, governance and dispute-resolution experience across SEA or comparable international markets. 
• Confident drafter and negotiator with sound judgement, commercial awareness and the ability to give clear, practical advice. 
• Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to work independently in a regional, matrix environment. 
• Fluent written and spoken English; Southeast Asian language capability and regional travel flexibility are advantageous.
