About the Role
Spencer Ogden is supporting a leading offshore wind organisation in the search for a Senior Telecommunications Engineer. This position sits within the Operations Engineering team and focuses on ensuring the performance, reliability, and cybersecurity compliance of IT/OT networks and telecommunications systems across major offshore wind assets in Continental Europe.
You will play a key role in maintaining and developing critical communications infrastructure across offshore windfarms, ensuring systems remain secure, compliant, and fully operational throughout the asset lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Define and implement strategies for IT/OT networks and telecommunications systems across offshore assets
Ensure high system availability, regulatory compliance, and adherence to industry best practices
Identify technical risks and develop mitigation plans for IT/OT infrastructure
Lead corrective and preventive maintenance activities, directly or via contractors
Perform root cause analysis on system faults and implement corrective actions
Ensure compliance with cybersecurity and regulatory requirements
Coordinate offshore maintenance activities with site teams, ensuring H&S compliance and quality delivery
Share lessons learned and best practices across offshore hubs
Support new offshore projects with telecoms and IT/OT technical input
Align maintenance strategies across UK, USA, and Continental Europe hubs
Prepare scopes of work and lead supplier technical evaluations during procurement processes
Manage maintenance contracts, driving cost efficiency and EBITDA optimisation
Liaise with OEMs, technical teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies as required
Key Requirements
Essential:
5+ years’ experience in IT/OT networks and communications systems
Strong hands-on experience with Ethernet networks and configuration of Cisco, Check Point, Palo Alto, Fortinet, or Hirschmann equipment
Experience with structured cabling (fibre optics and Ethernet)
Experience defining maintenance strategies, contracting, and scopes of work
Familiarity with OT cybersecurity frameworks (e.g. IEC 62443)
Willingness to travel across Europe and internationally
Desirable:
Experience with Cisco wireless solutions
Industrial communication protocols (OPC, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, MODBUS, SNMP)
SCADA systems in power generation or distribution environments
Distributed Control Systems (ABB, Siemens, GE, Schneider) and PLCs
Offshore wind sector experience, including turbine systems
Systems administration experience (Windows, Linux, virtualised environments)
Certifications Required
