Shift Engineer

The Shift Engineer is responsible for the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of critical facility infrastructure within the data centre. Working as part of a 24/7 operations team, the Shift Engineer ensures the continuous availability and reliability of mission-critical systems while responding promptly to alarms, incidents, and customer requests in accordance with established operational procedures.


Key Responsibilities

Operate and monitor critical facility systems during assigned shifts to ensure continuous, reliable, and safe data centre operations.

Perform routine inspections, equipment rounds, and operational checks on all critical infrastructure to identify abnormalities and ensure systems are operating within defined parameters.

Carry out preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance activities in accordance with maintenance schedules and operational requirements.

Diagnose and troubleshoot faults across critical facility systems, restoring equipment to normal operation with minimal disruption to customers.

Operate, maintain, and monitor mission-critical infrastructure including:

Mechanical systems (HVAC, CRAC/CRAH units, AHUs, VRV systems, chillers, pumps, and plumbing)

Electrical systems (UPS, DC battery systems, PDUs, generators, ATS/STS, transformers, switchgear, and electrical distribution systems)

Fire detection and suppression systems

Building Management System (BMS)

Environmental monitoring and temperature control systems

Life safety and lighting systems

Continuously monitor alarms through the Building Management System (BMS) and other monitoring platforms, responding promptly to abnormal operating conditions.

Respond to incidents, equipment failures, power interruptions, and emergency situations, following established escalation procedures and supporting recovery efforts.

Execute Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), and Method of Procedures (MOPs) during routine operations, maintenance, and emergency events.

Support incident investigations by documenting events, collecting technical information, and assisting with root cause analysis.

Perform switching operations and equipment isolation in accordance with approved procedures and permit-to-work requirements.

Coordinate with vendors and contractors during maintenance activities to ensure work is completed safely and in compliance with operational standards.

Maintain accurate operational records, maintenance logs, shift reports, and equipment documentation.

Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a safe working environment.

Participate in shift handovers by providing comprehensive updates on equipment status, ongoing work, incidents, and operational risks.

Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and maintenance effectiveness.
