Shift Lead Engineer

The Shift Lead Engineer is responsible for leading the operations team during assigned shifts to ensure the safe, reliable, and uninterrupted operation of critical data centre infrastructure. This role oversees day-to-day facility operations, incident response, maintenance activities, and team coordination while ensuring compliance with operational procedures, service level agreements, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the operations and maintenance activities during assigned shifts, ensuring all critical systems operate safely, efficiently, and within defined performance standards.

Supervise and coordinate Shift Engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance, work allocation, and operational support throughout the shift.

Perform and oversee preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance activities while minimising disruption to customer operations.

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve faults across critical facility systems, ensuring timely restoration of services.

Operate, monitor, and maintain mission-critical infrastructure including:

Mechanical systems (HVAC, CRAC/CRAH units, AHUs, VRV systems, chillers, pumps, and plumbing)

Electrical systems (UPS, DC battery systems, PDUs, generators, ATS/STS, transformers, switchgear, and distribution systems)

Fire detection and suppression systems

Building Management System (BMS)

Environmental monitoring and temperature control systems

Life safety and lighting systems

Ensure continuous monitoring of the Building Management System (BMS) and other facility monitoring platforms, responding promptly to alarms and abnormal operating conditions.

Lead incident management activities, acting as the primary technical lead during equipment failures, utility interruptions, and emergency situations while coordinating with internal stakeholders and external vendors.

Manage work orders, maintenance schedules, and permit-to-work activities to ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with operational procedures.

Respond immediately to emergency situations including equipment failures, fire alarms, power disruptions, and customer-impacting events, ensuring escalation procedures are followed.

Execute and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), and Method of Procedures (MOPs) to maintain operational consistency and minimise risk.

Conduct routine inspections, equipment rounds, and system performance checks to identify potential issues before they impact operations.

Ensure all maintenance activities are properly documented, including shift handovers, incident reports, maintenance records, and operational logs.

Coordinate with contractors, service providers, and vendors during planned maintenance and repair activities.

Maintain compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while promoting a strong safety culture.

Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, system reliability, and maintenance practices.
