Utilities & Wastewater Treatment Engineer

Our client is a large-scale industrial processing and manufacturing business operating a newly established production facility in Malaysia.
As part of its continued growth, the company is seeking an experienced OSBL Production Specialist to support the operation, optimisation, and reliability of utility systems and industrial wastewater treatment facilities. This position will play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operations across critical plant infrastructure.
The successful candidate will work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and production teams to improve system performance, support operational excellence initiatives, and drive continuous improvement across utilities and wastewater treatment operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, operate, and optimise utility systems including steam generation, cooling water systems, power distribution, and associated infrastructure
- Support the operation and performance of Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems (IETS) and wastewater treatment facilities
- Conduct technical analysis, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting to improve system reliability and availability
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and operational standards relating to wastewater discharge and utility operations
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and optimise resource utilisation
- Support process improvement initiatives, feasibility studies, and engineering modifications through Management of Change (MOC) processes
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to resolve operational issues and implement corrective actions
- Develop and maintain operating procedures, technical documentation, and performance reports
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide technical guidance and support to operations and maintenance personnel
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
- 5–8 years of experience within utilities, wastewater treatment, process operations, or industrial manufacturing environments
- Strong knowledge of Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems (IETS), wastewater treatment processes, and environmental compliance requirements
- Experience operating or supporting utility systems such as boilers, cooling towers, water treatment systems, and power distribution infrastructure
- Experience with process optimisation, troubleshooting, and operational performance improvement
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and industrial operating standards
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional operational teams
- Experience within oil & gas, petrochemical, oleochemical, refining, chemical manufacturing, or related process industries will be highly regarded
Preferred Qualifications
- Steam Engineer Grade 1 or Grade 2 certification
- Experience supporting Management of Change (MOC) processes
- Knowledge of environmental management systems and regulatory compliance frameworks
