Client Name: Not disclosed
Industry/Sector: Oil & Gas / Offshore Drilling
Company Size: Large global multinational
Location: Trinidad & Tobago
Hiring Requirements: Experienced rig-based personnel for a conventional drillship

Company Description:

The client is a leading oil services company specializing in offshore drilling and energy solutions. Operating globally, they provide technical expertise, rig personnel, and project management services to ensure safe, efficient, and timely operations in the oil and gas sector.

Spencer Ogden partnered with a leading oil services company to provide a large contingent of experienced rig personnel in Trinidad. By managing rapid mobilisation, vetting, compliance, and logistics, we helped the client avoid costly delays and ensured their drillship departed on schedule for its next assignment.

The Challenge

The client faced a critical situation when a drillship undergoing refurbishment in a Trinidadian shipyard had overstayed its maximum allowed time. Officials required the vessel to depart immediately or incur a penalty of $600,000 USD per day.

They needed a recruitment partner who could rapidly source and deploy highly experienced rig personnel, while managing complex requirements such as certifications, medical clearances, background checks, and international payroll compliance.

Our Approach

Spencer Ogden implemented a rapid, hands-on mobilisation strategy, which included:

  1. Leveraging our extensive candidate network to contact and pre-qualify over 800 potential candidates
  2. Ensuring all candidates had valid certifications, medical clearances, background checks, and drug screenings
  3. Coordinating fast travel arrangements and ensuring compliance with local and international tax and payroll regulations
  4. Managing all administrative and logistical steps externally to free up client resources
  5. Through proactive planning, candidate vetting, and real-time logistics management, we enabled the client to focus on operational priorities while we handled the personnel mobilisation.

The Results

  • Contacted over 800 candidates and screened 509
  • Submitted 392 CVs and conducted 325 interviews
  • Extended 199 offers and successfully placed 185 candidates
  • Mobilised personnel within 18 hours of the assignment start
  • Ensured drillship departure on time, avoiding penalties of $600,000 per day
  • Strengthened our position as the client’s preferred supplier for offshore personnel
