At the beginning of April, Spencer Ogden and WRISE Colorado co-hosted Power Up Your Job Hunt in Energy - a high-impact networking event to empower job seekers navigating today’s rapidly evolving energy landscape.
Held in our office in the heart of Colorado’s energy corridor, the event brought together a diverse crowd of industry professionals, federal employees affected by recent layoffs, early-career talent, and seasoned energy experts. Guests had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with HR managers, recruiters, and hiring leaders from across the sector.
As global recruitment experts in sustainability, natural resources, and infrastructure, Spencer Ogden has spent 15 years building career-defining connections across the energy value chain. With WRISE’s deep community ties and mission to promote diversity and equity in energy, this event was a space for people to network, gain practical insights, and take the next step in their careers.
Attendees joined a practical, solution-focused panel discussion led by Ella Cann, Manager, Renewable Energy at Spencer Ogden exploring how to navigate the job search process with confidence. Key takeaways included:
Crafting a compelling resume - Tailoring content, highlighting achievements, using industry-specific keywords, and keeping formatting clean and Applicant Tracking System friendly.
Optimising the application process - Setting up job alerts, refining LinkedIn profiles, researching companies, and connecting intentionally with recruiters and employees.
Effective networking strategies - Reaching out to 1st-degree LinkedIn connections, joining professional associations, and booking informal chats with industry peers.
Preparing for interviews - Understanding the company, reviewing job descriptions in detail, and following up with personalised thank-you notes.
Negotiating offers - Being transparent about expectations, reviewing full compensation packages, and confidently advocating for your needs.
Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed wine, cheese, and networking with their peers.
As the energy sector undergoes unprecedented change, the demand for top talent - and the competition for it - has never been higher. At Spencer Ogden, we recognise that the future of energy depends on the people behind it. That’s why we’re proud to invest in events like this, helping job seekers build meaningful careers and giving employers access to exceptional talent.
