Overview

A leading global energy technology company is seeking a Regional Project Director for APAC to oversee the full life cycle of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the region. This role will be based in the company’s headquarters in China and will lead both in-country and regional project teams, including direct oversight of the future team expansion.

This is a critical, high-visibility hire for an organisation experiencing rapid growth across Asia Pacific. The ideal candidate should be a bilingual project leader to effectively work with local and regional teams, possessing deep experience managing complex renewable energy projects and a proven ability to operate in fast-moving, multicultural environments.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution

• Lead end-to-end management of utility-scale BESS projects across APAC—from contract negotiation and planning through to construction, commissioning, and customer handover.
• Drive feasibility assessments, prepare project assignment documentation, and establish high-performing project teams aligned with regional requirements.
• Oversee project scope, quality, schedule, cost, risk, and communication, ensuring compliance with regional standards and best-practice safety protocols.

Team & Stakeholder Management

• Manage internal and external resources across multiple countries
• Provide strong cross-cultural leadership across APAC markets, ensuring seamless coordination with engineering, supply chain, logistics, legal, and commercial teams.
• Facilitate clear communication with customers, contractors, and partners to ensure smooth project execution and timely issue resolution.

Operational & Technical Oversight

• Monitor project KPIs, technical milestones, and progress reports, proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
• Oversee logistics, production timelines, and commissioning activities to safeguard delivery excellence across diverse grid and regulatory environments.
• Contribute technical insights for business development, supporting pursuit and evaluation of new BESS opportunities across APAC.
