HV Control Engineer

Role Purpose


This role is responsible for the safe operation and control of a large offshore wind project’s high voltage (HV) electrical system. The HV Control Engineer will oversee real-time system monitoring, switching operations, and coordination of safe electrical work processes during the commissioning and operational phases.




Location: Initially office-based/remote (Mon–Fri); rotational assignment at the Operations & Maintenance Control Centre in Poland, from Q3/Q4 2025




Key Responsibilities


Control Room Operations


Monitor and operate the HV electrical network via SCADA and other control systems.




Manage power distribution and real-time system status.




React promptly to faults and alarms to ensure system reliability and rapid restoration.




Maintain detailed records of all switching operations and safety precautions.




Safety & Compliance


Ensure full adherence to Electrical Safety Rules and site-specific procedures.




Act as Person in Control of the Electrical Installation (PCEI) as required.




Prepare, issue, and approve safe switching schedules for energizations and maintenance work.




Oversee the Permit-to-Work (PtW) and Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) processes.




Coordination & Communication


Liaise with all operational personnel (AP/SAPs) executing works on the HV system.




Communicate all outages, faults, or operational changes to the responsible HV Commissioning Manager (PREI).




Coordinate with the Transmission System Operator (TSO) on boundary switching and safety precautions.




Support shift handovers with accurate briefings and system status updates.




Planning & Commissioning Support


Assist in planning and preparing electrical works, in alignment with commissioning milestones.




Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) to develop deep system familiarity.




Contribute to the development of operational documentation and safety rules.




Support testing, energization, and system handover activities.




Documentation & Process Development


Develop and maintain processes and procedures for safe operation and control.




Support the creation of safe energization and handover documentation.




Review electrical work requests, RAMS, and evaluate risks.




Manage various software systems related to operations (e.g., PtW, LOTO).




Training & Handover


Assist in training Operations & Maintenance (O&M) staff to take over HV control responsibilities.




Act as a safety ambassador by promoting a strong safety culture within the team.




Key Deliverables

Fully trained operational staff for handover phase.




Proactive contribution to safety rule development and commissioning success.




Qualifications & Requirements


Proven experience in HV commissioning and operation under Electrical Safety Rules.




Familiarity with safety documentation, switching schedules, and electrical regulations.




Practical experience using SCADA systems and managing PtW/LOTO processes.




Strong awareness of electrical risks and ability to evaluate work-related RAMS.




Fluent in English (mandatory); Polish language skills are desirable.




Excellent communication and coordination skills across multi-disciplinary teams.




Willingness to travel offshore for site familiarization, testing, and commissioning tasks.




Additional Information


The role sits within the Electrical Engineering package for a major offshore wind development.




Initial work is primarily office-based, with a transition to control centre operations in Poland as the project progresses.




Offshore presence will be required during commissioning for system learning and operational support.
