Lead Estimator

Lead Estimator

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop detailed cost estimates using B2W software (Hybrid Item Price + WBS method) for transmission and substation projects.

• Analyze project scope, drawings, specifications, and RFP documentation to accurately determine labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

• Support simultaneous pursuit of multiple projects — may be managing up to 3 active estimates at a time.

• Engage subcontractors early in the pursuit process, issue RFPs, and evaluate proposals using Best Value templates.

• Participate in constructability and quality assurance reviews to validate estimate accuracy and project feasibility.

• Conduct risk analysis and maintain risk registries, documenting probabilities, mitigation strategies, and contingency planning.

Collaboration & Communication

• Collaborate with scheduling, operations, and preconstruction teams to define milestone dates, construction durations, and critical path.

• Participate in pre-bid meetings with the Preconstruction team and engage with clients and external partners.

• Communicate confidently and clearly with internal stakeholders and external clients — knowing the right approach and tone for each audience.

• Maintain rigorous document control across pursuit folders, including estimate files, subcontractor quotes, and review documentation.

Leadership & Mentorship (Growth Area)

• Begin developing skills in managing, delegating, and mentoring junior estimators.

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and standardization of estimating processes.

• Demonstrate self-awareness and emotional intelligence in team settings; support a collaborative, buddy-system style of knowledge transfer.

Required

• 3+ years of estimating experience in power delivery, transmission, substation, or related heavy construction sectors.

• Proficiency in B2W Estimating software (minimum 1–2 years required).

• Strong understanding of construction means and methods for transmission lines and/or air-insulated substations.

• Experience with On-Screen Take-off, Excel, Microsoft Project, and PowerPoint.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a dominant, confident, and professional style.

• Ability to build and maintain subcontractor relationships.

Preferred

• Field engineer, apprentice-level, or hands-on construction background.

• Experience supporting or participating in large-scale projects ($100M+).

• Exposure to EPC market pursuits or heavy civil construction environments.

• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

CULTURAL FIT

We are looking for an A-team player — someone who is driven, self-aware, and ready to contribute to high-profile, large-scale projects. The ideal candidate brings technical confidence, communicates the right way with the right people, and is eager to grow into a mentorship and leadership role over time. If you thrive in a collaborative environment and take pride in delivering quality work on complex projects, this is the role for you.
