Mechanical Engineer

Dublin Bay Power is engaging in an extensive overhaul in 2026 and is currently seeking experienced mechanical

engineers with power plant experience to support its overhaul team. The engineer will be responsible for delivery

of the Cooling Water Scope. The scope will include Cooling Water and Motor Overhaul, Culvert draining, inspections

and repairs, Bandscreen inspection and repairs and condenser Inspections and repairs.


We are currently looking for a qualified Mechanical engineering to mobilise to the Dublin Bay Power site and

respectively manage the key responsibilities which are listed below. The successful candidate will work within an

project team, supporting the project manager to delivery this important overhaul.


Key Responsibilities

• Work with the Safety Adviser and other project team members to ensure that all works undertaken during the

project are executed in accordance with statutory safety, health and environmental regulations and internal

Technical Standards & Guidelines

• Perform the role of Work Controller and Confined Space coordinator under the SSoW Rules.

• Management of Main EPC Mechanical Contract and other Mechanical contracts / work scopes as assigned by

the Project Manager

• Liaison with specialist team to successfully deliver overhaul in line with defined protocols and procedures.

• Support the implementation of Inspection & Test Plans for the Mechanical aspects of the unit, in conjunction

with the appropriate Competent Person / Asset Management Specialist

• Management of quality in accordance with responsibilities listed in the Project Quality Plan.

• Day to day supervision and point of contact with contractors and their works. Review of key ITP protocol sheets

• Work with and support the station Management and Maintenance Teams during the course of the project

• Undertake regular safety, environment and quality audits during the overhaul

• Reporting on progress against schedule and attendance at various project meetings as deemed appropriate by

the Project Manager

• Work with the Project Manager to control costs for assigned contracts

• Management of special tooling requirements with the principle Contractor

• Development of technical specifications for work scopes on Mechanical plant and equipment and involvement

in various stages of tendering and procurement process

• Use of plant modification process for all Mechanical plant modifications. Ensure all Mechanical procedures and

drawings are updated

• Use of the ESB Contractor Management (CM) process to manage assigned contracts including use of CM tools

to track contract progress and holding of Kick-Off, Progress, Close-Out meetings, etc.

• Attendance at Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), workshop visits, if required

• Creation of Mechanical Close-Out Report

• Any other duties as assigned by Project Manager


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

• Experience of planning major power station overhauls – including logisitics, procurement, specifications

development and contractor management

• Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Flexibility which is important in all aspects of the role

• Strong report writing capability

• Proficient computer skills


Desirable

• Experience working in Dublin Bay Power.Dublin Stations

• Experience in the overhaul of thermal power plant

• Knowledge and Experience working under ESB Safety rules


Qualifications


Essential

• Experience of Power plant mechanical plant, incl, Pumps, Motors and Valves etc

• Well versed with Health, Safety and Environment Standards and procedures

• Minimum experience of 5 years (Post Qualification) in power generation industry


Desirable

• Engineer level 8 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline


Base Location

Dublin Bay Power Plant, Pidgeon house road,

Dublin 4.


The successful candidate must work from the base location on a full-time basis.

When the contractor is required to attend Dublin Bay Power Plant, travel, accommodation, and related expenses

will not be reimbursed.

Expenses incurred for business travel - that are not normally incurred by the successful candidate in their normal

place of work - will be reimbursed.

All travel and accommodation expenses, if applicable, shall be agreed in advance with the line manager.

Claims for reimbursement of approved receipts must be via the contractors agency.

Mileage rates in respect of journeys carried out will not apply.

ASAP.


Duration

12 months up to Dec 2026.


Safety


Contractors must comply with all Health and Safety Regulations and requirements pertaining to the location where

they are working and must comply with all directions and instructions from their designated line management.

• Contractors shall wear full PPE, including Arc-resistant where required.

• Steel toe boots compliant with S3 EN ISO 20345.

• Safepass and manual handling training

• Contractors shall be provided with an unbranded hard hat and ear defenders where required.

• This PPE will be provided by suppliers but without any identifiable Logo.

• The PPE to be provided by does not include safety boots, gloves and eye protection. These are

standard items that contractors should have at their cost.

• Contractors must have up to date SafePass and manual handling training.


Other Requirements

The successful candidate must have use of a personal ‘phone, laptop/PC and internet facilities, and must be

equipped to fully engage in a professional manner during the course of the engagement
