Substation Site Manager

Overview

The Substation Site Manager is responsible for overseeing all on-site activities for a substation construction project. This role ensures projects are executed safely, on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards. The position involves managing subcontractors, coordinating with stakeholders, and maintaining strict adherence to safety, regulatory, and technical requirements.


Key Responsibilities

1. Safety Management

• Enforce safety protocols on site, including inspections and regular training for all personnel.

• Identify and address potential hazards proactively.

• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards.


2. Project Execution

• Manage day-to-day construction activities and coordinate subcontractor schedules.

• Monitor progress against the established project plan.

• Resolve issues that arise during construction to avoid delays.


3. Quality Control

• Implement quality assurance procedures to ensure compliance with specifications.

• Conduct quality checks on materials, equipment, and installations.

• Maintain records of all quality control activities.


4. Subcontractor Management

• Support selection and onboarding of subcontractors.

• Monitor subcontractor performance and enforce adherence to requirements.

• Address disputes or performance issues as needed.


5. Site Coordination

• Maintain clear communication with project engineers, managers, and stakeholders.

• Coordinate deliveries of equipment and materials to the site.

• Manage site logistics, access, and resources.


6. Technical Oversight

• Ensure all installation work follows project drawings and technical specifications.

• Address technical challenges during execution and provide solutions.


7. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate project records, including daily reports, progress updates, RFIs, safety logs, material tracking, and testing documentation.

• Provide regular updates to project leadership regarding status, risks, and potential issues.


Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

• Minimum 5 years of experience in medium- or high-voltage substation construction (protection and control experience strongly preferred).

• Ability to read and interpret drawings, including one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, site plans, conduit plans, and communication block diagrams.

• Skilled in verifying physical wiring against design documents.

• Ability to identify and verify substation materials and equipment upon receipt.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers, subcontractors, and colleagues.

• Demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines while managing multiple priorities.

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
