Substation Physical Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Develop FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Solution) electromechanical design criteria. Synchon, STATCOM and FSC projects.

• Develop and direct general arrangement, layout and elevation drawings considering electrical and mechanical parameters of the project.

• Develop and direct Grounding drawings.

• Perform and review cable ampacity, grounding, lightning, illumination, and station auxiliary load calculations.

• Create equipment specifications and detailed bill of materials.

• Perform and review trench and conduit design.

• Develop conceptual designs for pricing purposes. Perform basic electrical engineering design and calculations for pricing purposes.

• Support and lead 3D Design for Proposals.

• Review manufacturer's documentation. Develop engineering execution plans in support of a particular project schedule.

• Develop and review 3D conceptual Layouts for FACTS devices.

• Ensure that the engineering deliverables meet the target scheduled dates, inform the Project Manager of possible delays adn/or risks in the project.

• Support Marketing and Project teams in the execution of a project or tender in customer meetings.

• Identify, notify, and provide solutions on potential problems that may adversely impact safety, reliability, costs and schedule on a project.

• Perform special assignments and provide technical advice in their area of expertise.

• Knowledge of ANSI/IEEE standards. IEC standards knowledge is a plus.

• The candidate should be flexible to travel locally and internationally to customer meetings and to project sites. Approximate travel is 20%.

 

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

• 8 or more-year experience with a focus on primary electrical design for FACTS.

• Professional Engineering license preferred (Or availability and willing to get it)

• Experience with GIS/AIS

• Fluent English Language

• Knowledge on ANSI/IEEE standards, IEC standards knowledge is a plus.

• Experience with equipment typically used in substation projects.

• Familiar with AutoCAD and Revit. Inventor is a plus.

• Good communication skills
