JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Commercial Advisor plays a pivotal role in formulating and executing the Company’s upstream commercial strategies. Leveraging extensive experience in high-value negotiations and commercial risk management, the incumbent will drive value creation across the upstream asset portfolio. This role requires close engagement with Joint Venture partners, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders to secure and optimize commercially robust, legally sound, and strategically aligned agreements. A key contributor to contract development, complex negotiations, and strategic decision-making, the Senior Commercial Advisor ensures Executive Management is kept apprised of all significant commercial risks, opportunities, and outcomes.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of the Company’s upstream commercial strategies in alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Serve as the primary focal point in high-stakes negotiations, disputes, and resolution processes related to Joint Operating Agreements (JOA), Production Sharing Contracts (PSC), Gas Sales Agreements (GSA), and other key commercial instruments.
  • Oversee the drafting, review, and administration of complex commercial agreements, ensuring commercial interests are optimized and risks are mitigated.
  • Collaborate proactively with internal departments—technical, legal, finance, and operations—to integrate commercial insights into all phases of exploration, development, and production.
  • Monitor market trends, fiscal regulations, and geopolitical developments to ensure commercial strategies remain competitive and compliant with applicable frameworks.
  • Identify value-enhancing opportunities across the asset portfolio, including farm-in/farm-out ventures, divestments, and new business initiatives.
  • Provide commercial leadership and mentoring to a multidisciplinary team of professionals within the Commercial, Contracts, and Legal functions.
  • Support tendering, bid evaluation, and contract award processes with sound commercial analysis and negotiation guidance.
  • Ensure senior leadership is continuously informed of key commercial developments, risks, and strategic options through concise and insightful reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geoscience, Economics, or a related discipline. A postgraduate qualification in Business Administration (MBA or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the upstream oil and gas industry, with demonstrated leadership in commercial negotiations and strategic business development.
  • Proven ability to manage and conclude complex commercial agreements involving PSCs, JOAs, GSAs, and service contracts.
  • In-depth knowledge of upstream business dynamics, joint venture governance, fiscal regimes, and industry best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to navigate multicultural, multidisciplinary environments effectively.
  • Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia is required; proficiency in Arabic will be considered an advantage.
