Associate Director - ICT / Telecoms / Structured Cabling

The Company

I am representing a dynamic and rapidly growing global ICT and Telecom infrastructure consulting firm.

Specialising in structured cabling design and engineering solutions, the firm delivers market-leading technical designs for global enterprise clients building cutting-edge data centres, office spaces, and production environments.

Currently operating with a close-knit team of around 30 professionals, the business is going through an exciting phase of explosive growth and transformation. They offer a highly entrepreneurial environment that is gradually adopting a more robust corporate structure, providing the perfect balance of agility and professional development. The business is renowned for its high standards and regularly partners with major MEP consultancies and hyperscalers across the globe.

The Job

The organisation is seeking a highly skilled Associate Director to take on a pivotal leadership role within their data centre division. Operating on a flexible, remote basis from anywhere within the UK (with occasional travel across EMEA), you will oversee and mentor a team of 5 to 15 technicians, engineers, and principal engineers.

In this role, you will be the face of the company for key client accounts, acting as the bridge between high-level technical execution and commercial success. You will maintain full accountability for multiple large-scale data centre projects, managing project financials, P&Ls, and cross-project resource planning. While you will not be required to produce detailed technical drawings, you will act as the ultimate technical escalation point for your team and validate designs to ensure accuracy.

Additionally, you will conduct quarterly business reviews, identify opportunities to upsell or cross-sell, and represent the business at major industry events.

The experience and skills required

To be successful in this role, you must bring a blend of strong commercial acumen, technical authority, and people leadership.

Essential criteria:

  • Strong experience working in the data centre sector, with a critical requirement of having worked directly for or alongside hyperscalers.
  • A deep understanding of hyperscaler standards, procedures, and ways of working.
  • Extensive practical experience in the design of ICT infrastructure, structured cabling systems, and physical infrastructure.
  • Proven management skills with the ability to lead, mentor, and prioritise the workload of technical project teams.
  • Strong commercial capabilities, including experience putting together project quotes and managing project P&Ls.
  • Exceptional communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical arguments and design intent.
  • Solid knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, BS-EN standards, and engineering calculations.

Desirable criteria:

  • RCDD / CDCDP qualifications.
  • CAD experience and knowledge of wireless networks, telephony, Security, AV, EPMS, and BAS smart building technologies.

Next Steps

The organisation is looking to move exceptionally fast on this crucial hire and boasts a highly streamlined decision-making process.

If you are an entrepreneurial leader looking to shape the future of an exploding market, I want to hear from you.

Please submit your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your experience with hyperscaler data centres.
