Job Profile – Project Quality Manager


Position in Organization


Reports to the Project Lead.

Liaises directly with clients and client representatives.

Liaises with suppliers on quality matters.

Collaborates across internal teams to ensure quality requirements are achieved.


Limits of Authority


Acts as the organisation’s representative on quality matters in meetings with clients and their representatives.

Represents the organisation on quality matters with suppliers.

Authorised to produce quality documentation on behalf of the business.


Key Responsibilities

Interface with clients to ensure all quality requirements are understood and incorporated into controlling documentation as required.

Manage contract deliverables, liaising with engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and project teams as necessary.

Work with engineering teams to ensure quality requirements are documented, updated, and aligned with design intent.

Produce and manage project quality plans, ensuring inspections and tests are conducted throughout engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and assembly stages.

Ensure all internal and client witness hold points and quality record requirements are included in inspection and test plans.

Request suppliers to produce inspection and test plans covering quality inspections, hold points, and records for supplied goods.

Conduct quality reviews at supplier locations and ensure submitted documentation is complete and compliant with contractual requirements.

Attend internal and external meetings as the quality representative.

Manage client representative attendance at key manufacturing stages and ensure documentation of witness hold point sign-offs.

Oversee compliance with hazardous area (e.g., ATEX) requirements during equipment installation, including documentation.

Manage pressure equipment compliance (e.g., PED), including categorisation and conformity assessment, liaising with approval bodies where necessary.

Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs), including validation of corrections, root cause analysis (RCA), and corrective actions, ensuring proper documentation and lessons learned.

Support client audits, inspections, and regulatory visits.

Provide quality status reports to project management.

Review work scope to ensure special processes (e.g., welding, NDT, painting, lifting) are pre-approved, certified, and properly recorded.

Revise inspection and test plans to reflect project changes.

Manage the compilation of a manufacturing record book (MRB) for submission to the client as a permanent quality record.

Skills & Competencies

Strong understanding of ATEX, PED, and ISO 9001.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Qualifications & Experience


Essential:


Significant experience managing major new-build projects in power generation or similar industries.

Practical experience with ATEX and PED requirements.


Desirable:


HND or degree in engineering.

Lead Auditor qualification.

Formal ATEX and/or PED training.

Experience working with approved or notified bodies.
