Job Title: Principal Electrical Engineer

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and technically competent Principal Electrical Engineer with a strong track record of project delivery. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication, organisational, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently while maintaining high technical standards. A collaborative team player with financial and project management experience is essential.


Key Responsibilities:


Act as the primary technical contact for clients, ensuring their requirements are effectively met.


Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to deliver seamless project outcomes.


Manage projects from concept to completion, including scheduling, resource allocation, and cost control.


Develop and maintain project documentation in compliance with quality and industry standards.


Prepare technical calculations, design sketches, specifications, and schedules for project delivery.


Conduct surveys of existing facilities and produce detailed reports.


Support clients in selecting appropriate contracting methods and vetting contractor proposals.


Carry out site supervision to ensure installations meet contract requirements and engineering best practices.


Monitor project finances, including interim and final valuations.


Prepare feasibility studies, specialist studies, and investment appraisals as required.


Present design proposals and technical information to clients as needed.


Keep up to date with emerging building services technologies, legislation, and industry best practices.


Ensure compliance with health, safety, and CDM regulations, including risk assessments for project installations.


Mentor junior staff and contribute to their professional development.


Education and Experience:


BEng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering preferred.


Chartered or working towards chartership (IET/CIBSE).


Proven experience at Principal Engineer level in the building services industry.


Competent with AutoCAD, electrical design software, and working knowledge of Revit.

Excellent project management and organisational abilities.


High numeracy, literacy, and IT skills.


Ability to prioritise workloads effectively and work independently.


Strong communication skills within team environments and with clients.


Proficient in producing accurate technical drawings and reports.


Competent with software including AutoCAD, Revit, Word, Excel, AMTECH/HEVACOMP/Mepworx, and DIALux/RELUX.


Experienced with online collaboration tools.


Motivated, ambitious, and committed to delivering high-quality results.


Desirable Skills:


Understanding of mechanical building services.


Knowledge of energy and thermal modelling.
