Job Title: Project Controls Cost Engineer – Maintenance (Oil & Gas)

Position Summary:

The Project Controls Cost Engineer – Maintenance is responsible for overseeing and managing cost control activities for ongoing maintenance and turnaround programs within Oil & Gas assets. This role leads a team of cost engineers and analysts to ensure accurate cost forecasting, reporting, and performance tracking across multiple maintenance projects. The position requires strong technical expertise in SAP, EcoSys, and Power BI, along with the ability to provide strategic insights and leadership to improve cost efficiency and project performance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cost Management & Leadership

Lead and mentor a team of cost engineers supporting maintenance and small capital projects.

Develop, implement, and maintain cost control systems and processes for maintenance programs.

Oversee the development of detailed budgets, forecasts, and cost breakdown structures (CBS).

Review and consolidate project cost data, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with corporate standards.

Monitor and report actual expenditures versus approved budgets and identify cost trends or variances.

2. Forecasting, Analysis & Reporting

Produce regular cost performance reports, variance analyses, and cost forecasts for maintenance activities.

Manage the integration of cost data from SAP (actuals, commitments, and accruals) into EcoSys for centralized cost control.

Develop and automate dashboards in Power BI to visualize cost performance, KPIs, and trends.

Provide insights and recommendations to management for cost optimization and improved financial control.

3. Change, Risk & Performance Management

Manage change control processes, ensuring all scope or work order changes are properly assessed and documented.

Support cost risk assessments and ensure contingency management and forecasting are robust.

Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for cost efficiency and productivity within maintenance programs.

4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

Work closely with maintenance planners, schedulers, procurement, finance, and project engineers to ensure alignment between cost, schedule, and scope.

Present cost performance updates to project and leadership teams, providing clear explanations of variances and corrective actions.

Act as the focal point for cost control within the maintenance organization.

5. Systems & Process Improvement

Lead continuous improvement initiatives in cost control processes and reporting tools.

Optimize data flow between SAP, EcoSys, and Power BI to enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.

Ensure adherence to corporate project controls procedures, cost governance, and reporting standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Finance, or related discipline.

5 years of experience in cost engineering, project controls, or maintenance project management within the Oil & Gas sector.

Proven experience leading a team of cost engineers or analysts.

Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience with SAP (cost modules), EcoSys, and Power BI.

Experience with maintenance, turnaround, or brownfield modification projects.

Familiarity with planning and scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6) and earned value management principles.

Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills.

Professional certification (e.g., AACE CCP, ICEC, or PMI-SP) is an asset.
