As a Mechanical Responsible Engineer (RE) Project Associate in the Nuclear Power Group, you will have the opportunity to coordinate and support project(s) consisting of engineers, designers, project controls and scheduling professionals involved in the mechanical facility updates, design, and analysis of new and existing nuclear power plant modifications. The position will involve coordinating with multiple internal and external departments / Stakeholders to coordinate the life cycle of project execution. This RE position will also provide the opportunity to lead efforts in our growing a nuclear power team.

Work will primarily be onsite at either power plant with limited remote support.

RE services to include support during the pre-construction phase (i.e., the time between modification Approval and construction start) installation, turnover and closeout. The candidate will be responsible to:


Work on diverse projects that cover the following five (5) main areas:

1) Project Definition & Planning

2) EC Design Support

3) Procurement

4) Installation / Construction

5) Mandatory Project Closeout


1. Project Definition & Planning

• Writing Project Scope Statements

• Interfacing with Project Sponsors and Plant Stakeholders

• Participating in Plant Health Committees, as needed

• Preparing Budgetary Engineering Range Estimates

• Preparing Preliminary Engineering Schedules

• Interfacing with Site Construction for Site Investigations and Walkdowns


2. Engineering Change (EC) Design Support

• Stakeholder interface

• EC meeting coordination

• Accessing site information

• Initial EC installation coordination

• EC Review and Processing


3. Procurement:

• Equipment Technical Requirement Review

• Coordination of Stakeholders & Meetings

• Vendor Interface and Coordination

• Vendor Document Overviews

• Participation in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), as needed


4) Installation / Construction:

• On-site Support

• Field Engineering

• Work Order (WO) Reviews

• Participation in Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)

• Field Change Request (FCR) Reviews and Processing

• Completion of mandatory Project Turnovers


5. Mandatory Project Closeout:

• Drawing Updates (Record) Coordination

• Coordination of Vendor Technical Manual updates

• Coordination of FLOC / MUT / EMUT updates

• SGI record drawing mark-ups, as needed

• Interface with Site Stakeholders and Vendors

• Verification of Procedure and Other Document Revisions

• Schedule


In overview, RE Tasks to include, but may not be limited to:

o Work Order review and comment incorporation.

o Be the lead design and technical interface between Xcel Energy, the EOC and Vendor(s).

o Travel to vendor, as needed, for FAT oversight and system understanding.

o Serve as technical interface between Xcel and vendors.

o Perform reviews and provide guidance on the provided Bill of Materials (BOMs).

o Support construction staff with engineering related questions.

o Perform field walkdowns.

o Attend and support shift turnover meetings and project pre-job brief.

o Track, manage, and complete assigned Project actions.

o Schedule development and review.

• Testing plan development and review

• Support and overview the design and project aspects of multidisciplinary nuclear power team.

• Coordinate and participate in external relationships with either consultants and contractors, and/or joint venture relationships.

• Execute projects by coordinating tasks across plant stakeholders, disciplines, guiding through all phases of engineering design, installation, turnover and closeout ensuring accountability within the project team.

• Monitor project performance, including safety, schedule, budget, reporting, and client relations throughout the project lifecycle.

• Identify and control project risk.

• Manage scope changes.

• Review, and provide guidance for design calculations, specifications, and collaborate with designers for drawing development.

• Analyze issues and provide solutions to improve results.

• Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely document review completion.

• Ability to adhere and support Corporate policies, procedures and comply with required standards.

• Be on site at plant locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.

• Travel periodically to vendor offices for design reviews.


Qualifications:

We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.

Essential skills and experience:

• ABET- accredited engineering degree, preferrably in Mechanical Engineering

• Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.

• 6 or more years of experience in the design and analysis of nuclear, industrial, or DOE facilities.

• 6 or more years of experience in project management/project coordination.

• System Engineering experience a plus.

• Experience in managing small, medium to large critical projects.

• Extensive knowledge and applied experience in all aspects of project CAD, 3D, engineering design.

• Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.

• Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others.

• Strong leadership skills and ability to develop and motivate staff.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience in providing guidance, mentoring, and training to staff engineers.

• Accredited training in Intergraph, SMART 3D, Software applications.


Valued but not required skills and experience:

• Conversant in software applications (e.g., Power point, excel, word, SAP, etc.)

• Training Development

• Design and/or Construction experience.

• Commissioning experience.

• Experience in coordinating the development of a new products for engineering team(s).

• Project schedule and budget development and management.
