Overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Senior Land Referencer to join a growing Infrastructure division based in Birmingham. This is a key role within a market-leading infrastructure team, working on some of the largest infrastructure schemes in the UK.


This position forms part of an expanding land referencing team with a proven record of delivering high-quality services. Key Responsibilities

  • Geo-referencing and digitising land features from CAD drawings and paper plans into GIS (ArcGIS preferred).
  • Desktop and contact referencing to identify affected landowners and occupiers.
  • Management, interpretation, and analysis of land and property data.
  • Maintenance and update of data in internal land referencing systems.
  • Verification and updating of relevant mapping layers and datasets.
  • Production and quality assurance of legal documentation: Order Plans, Books of Reference, and Notices and Schedules
  • Conduct site visits, including door knocking and the posting of statutory notices.
  • Engage clearly and compassionately with members of the public and project stakeholders.
  • Manage client expectations, project timelines, and assign tasks to junior team members.
  • Assist with timesheet oversight and contribute to monthly invoicing processes.
  • Attend client and stakeholder meetings as required.

Candidate Requirements

  • To be successful in this role, candidates should demonstrate:
  • A relevant degree (e.g., geography, planning, surveying) or significant industry experience.
  • Strong experience in producing land referencing outputs such as Books of Reference, Order Plans, Notices, and Schedules.
  • Team leadership or experience supporting junior staff and project coordination.
  • Knowledge of statutory consent and land acquisition processes, including: Planning Act 2008, Transport and Works Act (TWA), and Compulsory Purchase Act
  • Proficiency with GIS software (ArcGIS preferred) and ability to interpret complex land and property data.
  • Strong communication skills, especially when dealing with members of the public or affected stakeholders.
  • A valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel to a variety of rural and urban locations as needed.
