An internationally recognised engineering and design consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing Data Centres team in London.


This is an exciting opportunity to work on mission-critical infrastructure projects, supporting the design and delivery of high-performance data centre facilities that power global digital services. You will contribute to the development of innovative, energy-efficient mechanical systems that support resilient and sustainable digital infrastructure.


As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering HVAC and mechanical building services designs for hyperscale and colocation data centre environments, collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex global projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of building services systems for data centre and mission-critical facilities.
  • Design and develop HVAC, cooling, and thermal management systems for high-performance infrastructure environments.
  • Produce engineering calculations, design documentation, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical engineers, architects, BIM specialists, and sustainability consultants.
  • Support project delivery ensuring designs meet performance, reliability, and efficiency standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical development within the team.
  • Engage with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver innovative engineering solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with CIBSE standards, UK regulations, and data centre performance requirements.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 6–10+ years experience in mechanical design engineering within building services or consulting engineering.
  • Strong experience designing HVAC systems, cooling solutions, and mechanical plant.
  • Experience producing engineering calculations, technical reports, and specifications.
  • Proficiency with BIM tools such as Revit MEP.
  • Strong stakeholder communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage design deliverables across complex engineering projects.


Desirable Experience

  • Experience working on data centre or mission-critical infrastructure projects (preferred but not required).
  • Knowledge of data centre cooling strategies such as chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC units, or liquid cooling.
  • Experience delivering energy-efficient or low-carbon engineering solutions.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership with CIBSE or IMechE.
