A leading building services engineering consultancy is expanding its UK presence and launching a new Birmingham office. As part of this growth, they are looking to hire an experienced Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to support a strong pipeline of data centre and mission-critical infrastructure projects across the UK and Europe.


This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Design Engineer with a background in HVAC and mechanical building services design to join a consultancy known for delivering complex engineering projects within critical infrastructure environments.


The role will be fully remote initially, with a transition to hybrid working once the Birmingham office opens.


The Role


As a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer, you will lead the mechanical design and technical delivery of building services systems on large-scale projects, particularly within the data centre and mission-critical sector.


You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, and contractors to deliver technically complex projects across the UK and European data centre market.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design and project delivery of building services systems
  • Design and review HVAC systems, chilled water systems, and cooling infrastructure
  • Support the delivery of large-scale data centre and mission-critical projects
  • Prepare and review technical reports, specifications, and design calculations
  • Coordinate with electrical, structural, and architectural teams on complex projects
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers
  • Ensure engineering solutions meet technical standards, programme requirements, and project budgets


Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, or Senior Mechanical Engineer within a building services consultancy
  • Strong experience in HVAC design and mechanical building services engineering
  • Experience delivering projects in data centres, mission-critical infrastructure, or complex commercial buildings
  • Strong knowledge of cooling systems, chilled water systems, and heat rejection infrastructure
  • Experience leading mechanical design packages across multidisciplinary teams
