Senior Project Engineer – Electrical (Data Centres)
Location: London (Hybrid)
Salary: £75,000 - £85,000
Step up into a role where you own the electrical delivery of complex data centre and building services projects from first sketch to final handover. As a Senior Project Engineer – Electrical with a leading consultancy, you’ll combine deep technical design with real project leadership, shaping mission?critical facilities for demanding clients while enjoying a 9?day fortnight that supports work–life balance.
Why this role stands out
- Take true ownership of projects, not just calculations – you’ll manage scope, programme, budgets and technical quality across medium and large schemes.
- Work at the sharp end of data centre and mission?critical design, where resilience, compliance and innovation genuinely matter.
- Lead and grow multidisciplinary teams, mentor engineers and influence how the consultancy delivers electrical design across its portfolio.
- Stay close to the technology: from MV/LV distribution and standby systems to smart building solutions and emerging data centre tech.
- Benefit from a modern, flexible culture with 9?day fortnights, hybrid working (where possible) and a focus on outcomes, not clock?watching.
Your impact
- Manage the delivery of medium and large?scale electrical building services projects, with a strong focus on data centres and mission?critical environments.
- Lead the design and specification of LV/MV power, lighting, emergency power, fire alarm, life safety and earthing systems in line with IEC, BS, IS and EN standards.
- Plan and oversee the workload of other engineers, providing mentorship, guidance and day?to?day technical leadership.
- Prepare and review tender documentation, technical reports, cost analyses and design packages, turning complex detail into clear recommendations for clients.
- Liaise directly with clients, contractors and vendors to resolve technical issues quickly and keep projects on track.
- Drive quality assurance and control across your projects, contributing to and improving the wider QA framework.
- Manage project scope, budgets, schedules and contracts, proactively identifying and mitigating risk or scope creep.
- Champion innovation and the adoption of emerging technologies, particularly within data centres and smart buildings.
- Represent the consultancy’s values, building strong, positive relationships with clients and project partners.
The technical profile we’re looking for
- Proven expertise in electrical building services design for data centres and commercial developments, including power distribution, lighting and standby systems.
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office.
- Experience using ETAP, Amtech and/or Dialux for power system and lighting calculations.
- Excellent understanding of IEC, CIBSE and relevant local standards, with the ability to apply them to complex, real?world designs.
- Comfortable producing detailed schematics, single?line diagrams and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with commissioning processes, power system coordination studies and compliance documentation for mission?critical facilities.
Experience and qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in electrical building services design, including at least 3 years on data centre or other mission?critical projects.
- Chartered Engineer (or actively working towards Chartership) with Engineers Ireland or an equivalent professional body.
- Proven track record managing large MEP projects from concept to completion, coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong understanding of Irish and EU building regulations; exposure to LEED/BREEAM or similar sustainability frameworks is an advantage.
Who will thrive here
- A technically strong project lead who enjoys both design detail and big?picture delivery.
- Confident communicator who builds trust with clients, contractors and internal teams.
- Organised and proactive, able to juggle multiple projects without losing sight of quality.
- Collaborative, mentoring mindset – keen to develop others while pushing standards forward.
- If you’re ready to move from “senior engineer” to genuine project leader in the data centre space, and you like the idea of a 9?day fortnight in a high?impact role, we’d like to hear from you.
