Sr Systems Studies Engineer

Position Summary:

Independently perform and lead power systems engineering studies in areas such as electromagnetic transients, load flow, short-circuit, transient stability, control design, equipment applications, and other transmission and distribution (T&D) areas. Develop proposals in response to customer specifications, RFP/RFQ, and technical information requests for power systems engineering analysis. Represent our company as an industry leader in power systems consulting and studies.

Essential Functions:

  • Independently conduct insulation coordination, harmonic, short-circuit, grounding, and other related studies for T&D equipment utilizing various software tools.
  • Independently perform studies on renewable resources, distributed energy resources, battery energy storage, relay and protection, performance monitoring, and grid modernization applications utilizing different software tools.
  • Independently manage, lead, and further projects to ensure completion within specified schedules and budgets.
  • Independently lead proposals in response to customer specifications, RFP/RFQ, and technical information requests.
  • Independently prepare, present, and support others with preparation and delivery of technical reports and presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Represent our company as an industry leader in interpretation of concepts in grid planning, interconnection, operations, and equipment application.

Education/Special Skills/Experience/Training:

  • Engineering degree: BSEE, MS/ME, or PhD in electrical engineering with emphasis on electric power engineering with a minimum of 7 years of experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of electric power systems and equipment operation and control.
  • Advanced organizational, interpersonal, presentation, communication, and technical writing skills required to communicate with customers and employees.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and on several projects simultaneously.
  • Expertise and leadership with various programs and modeling tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of industry standards and guides (NESC, NERC, IEEE, IEC, and CIGRE).

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Lead business development efforts by review and comment on customer technical specifications and creation of presentations.
  • Lead regular group meetings and with other departments, including lunch and learn sessions.
  • Perform other functions as assigned.
