Electrical Engineer Work Controller

Working days: Monday to Friday (some weekend work expected)

Position Description

This project is engaging in an extensive Overhaul and Life Extension Project in 2026 and is currently seeking

an experienced Electrical Engineer with power plant experience to support its overhaul project team. The

electrical engineer will be responsible for supervision and delivery of the electrical scope of works. This scope will

include Safety Maintenance and Inspections Switchgear and Switchboards, Auxiliary and Station Service

Transformers, Replacements of Generator Stator, Generator Protection Panel, Excitation and Static Starting

Device.

Currently looking for two qualified electrical engineers to mobilise to the plants and retrospectively manage the key responsibilities which are listed below. 

Key Responsibilities

• Work with the Safety Adviser and other project team members to ensure all works undertaken during the

project are executed in accordance with statutory safety, health and environmental regulations and

internal Technical Standards and Guidelines.

• Perform the role of Work Controller . This will involve planning of works as per

safety rules, requesting isolations from Ops Team, creating and issuing all permits required to safely

complete the Electrical Scope.

• Develop Electrical Overhaul Scope, create work packages, tender documents and award contracts for each

work package.

• Management of contractors involved in the electrical overhaul scope.

• Liaison with EMP specialist teams to successfully deliver overhaul in line with defined protocols and

procedures.

• Create and implement Inspection & test plans for the electrical scope

• Management of quality in accordance with responsibilities listed in the Project Quality Plan.

• Day to day supervision and point of contact with contractors and their works. Review of key ITP protocol

sheets

• Work with and support the station management and maintenance teams during the course of project

• Undertake regular safety, environment and quality audits during the overhaul

• Reporting on progress against schedule and attendance at various project meetings as deemed appropriate

by the Project Manager

• Work with the Project Manager to control costs for assigned contracts

• Use of

plant

modification process for all electrical plant modifications. Ensure all electrical procedures and drawings are

updated

• Use of the Contractor Management (CM) process to manage assigned contracts including use of CM

tools to track contract progress and holding of Kick-Off, Progress, Close-Out meetings, etc.

• Creation of Electrical Close-Out Report

• Any other duties as assigned by the Project Manager

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

• Experience of planning major power station overhauls – including logistics, procurement, specifications

development and contractor management

• Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Flexibility which is important in all aspects of the role

• Strong report writing capability

• Proficient computer skills

• Full clean driving license (B car licence)

Desirable

• Previous Work Controller authorisation under Safety Rules

• Experience of working with Permit Systems and knowledge of the SSoW Rules

• Experience in the construction, commissioning and overhaul of thermal power plant

• Experience of Commissioning and Re-commissioning of plant upgrades in accordance with Grid Code

Qualifications

Essential

• Experience of Power Plant Electrical systems, including HV & LV Switchgear and associated protection

systems, Transformers, Excitation System, Generators and Starting Devices.

• Minimum of advanced Level 6 Electrical Craft Certificate or a suitable Level 7 (NFQ) or higher

qualification in Electrical, Electrical Services or other suitable alternative qualification

• Well versed with Health and Safety and Environmental Standards and Procedures.

• Minimum experience of 5 years in Power Generation Industry


Base Location

Dublin 

Co Clare.

The successful candidate must work from the base location on a full-time basis.


Expenses incurred for business travel - that are not normally incurred by the successful candidate in their normal

place of work - will be reimbursed.

All travel and accommodation expenses shall be agreed in advance with the line manager.

Claims for reimbursement of approved receipts must be via the contractors agency.

Mileage rates in respect of journeys carried out will not apply.
