Senior Legal Counsel, Australia

Our Client:

Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to lead their legal team in Australia, with a focus on renewable energy solutions within Wind & BESS. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of driving sales growth, developing strategic partnerships, and expanding market share in the renewable energy sector. This role will be based in our United Arab Emirates office and will require frequent travel throughout the region.


Responsibilities:

1) Provide legal advice and risk assessments on renewable energy project development, permitting and approvals, EPC/O&M contracts, and energy-related laws and regulations in Australia

2? Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, including Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), EPC/O&M contracts, consultancy agreements, and government submissions

3?Engage and coordinate with Australian government bodies such as the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), the Australian Energy Regulator (AER), the Clean Energy Regulator (CER), and relevant state and local government authorities to manage approvals and regulatory matters

4?Support legal due diligence, joint ventures, and investment structuring in project development and acquisition processes

5?Ensure the company’s operations in Australia comply with applicable laws and regulations, including corporate law, employment law, and environmental regulations; coordinate with external counsel on corporate secretarial matters

6?Assist in handling disputes, claims, or regulatory matters, and manage external legal service providers

7?Provide legal training to internal teams and contribute to the development of legal and compliance policies and best practices


Requirements:

1?A qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Australia, holding a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from a reputable law school;

2?At least 5 years of post-qualification professional experience, preferably having worked in a leading law firm or multinational company, with experience negotiating and drafting wind turbine and BESS sale and O&M contracts energy, infrastructure, or construction sectors preferred;

3?Familiar with Australian energy industry regulations, corporate law, land use, and related regulatory frameworks;

4?Experience engaging with government agencies and regulators, with a solid understanding of licensing, permitting, and compliance processes;

5?Excellent written and spoken English, with strong legal drafting, review, and negotiation skills;

6?Self-motivated and results-oriented, capable of independently managing legal matters;

7?Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work collaboratively with both local and international teams.
