A small, Chicago-based engineering firm is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer / Transportation Manager to lead their Phase I and II transportation engineering design projects. The Transportation Manager will oversee a group of senior civil engineers, mid-level designers, and drafters to accomplish a wide range of projects including roadways, traffic engineering, sewer, utilities, and site work.This role is HYBRID, meaning you must work out of the downtown Chicago office minimum 2 days per week.The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and self-directed with a background in roadway design and project management. The selected candidate will work closely with firm ownership and participate in business development/sales activities to grow their department.Engineering Management Responsibilities: Planning, scoping, man-hour estimation, and contract negotiationsSet project schedules, tasks, and milestonesMonitor project budgetsCoordinate with PMs and assign staffing to complete project requirementsVerify project documentation and correspondence is maintainedApply QAQC protocols for timely reviews to ensure accuracy and quality of workRepresent firm with client coordination Design Responsibilities: Provide either lead design, design support, or design review where appropriate for PS&EEnsure design compliance with standards, codes, and acceptable engineering practicesProject close-out and construction phase services where applicable Operations Responsibilities: Identify training needs and develop programs for all level of staffPerform annual evaluations of direct reporting staffAttend interviews of technical candidates Business Development Responsibilities: Participate in RFQ review and Go/No-Go proposal deliberationsProvide written technical input for statements of interestDirect outreach to industry colleagues for various sales and marketing promotionAttend networking events with clients and/or industry associations within Illinois Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (ABET accredited)PE License in the state of Illinois15+ years of transportation design experience (roadway geometrics, cross sections, drainage design, traffic studies, signal design)Illinois based transportation experience with IDOT, Tollway & CDOTFamiliarity with MicroStation, Geopak and PowerGeopakStrong verbal and written communication skillsStrong organizational skills, strict attention to detail, and readiness to learnAbility to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines Benefits:The benefits program includes: Medical, Dental, Vision insuranceBCBS of IL health wellness programs which cover gym discounts, flu shots, and biometric screeningsPartial reimbursement provided towards Co-Insurance / Deductibles.401(k) retirement plan w/ employer matchIndividual and Dependent Life InsuranceShort- and Long-Term DisabilityTraining and professional development coursesGenerous paid time off program (PTO)Commuter transit reimbursement program

Mid-Level Civil Engineer - TransportationLocation: Downtown ChicagoWork Schedule: Hybrid (minimum 2 days in-office per week).Ideal candidate is someone early in their career with approx. 2+ years of civil engineering experience and does not require substantial training to be productive. We are currently not able to accept new graduates at this time. This role requires conventional aspects of civil engineering and roadway design and will work under the supervision of a senior civil engineer. Design tasks will include a variety of topics: roadway geometrics and pavements, cross sections, MOT, grading, storm sewer, ADA ramps, and traffic signals.A qualified candidate will demonstrate responsible care and judgement while performing most tasks, assignments and designs independently. Guidance and mentoring will be provided as required for unusual or complex assignments.Responsibilities: Perform civil engineering design from preliminary through to final designDevelop plans, specifications, reports, and quantity computationsEnsure design compliance with state/local codes, ordinances and agency requirementsCoordinate with reviewers to ensure accuracy and quality of workCoordinate with other departments for multi-discipline workMaintain project documentationPlanning & scheduling of both assigned work and training from the supervising engineerIndependent critical thinking ability to make timely and well-informed decisionsOther duties may be assigned as required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (ABET accredited)2+ years of transportation design experienceIllinois based transportation experience with local agencies such as IDOT, Tollway & CDOTEIT/FE certification (PE License is a plus)Proficiency with MicroStation, Geopak, PowerGeopak, and/or OpenRoadsStrong verbal and written communication skillsHighly organized with strict attention to detailAbility to work independently in a hybrid working environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
