Electrical Building Services Design Engineer
Location: Manchester (3 days in office p/week)
Contract Length: 12 months
IR35 Status: Outside IR35

I'm sourcing for a Electrical Building Services Design Engineer to join an established multidisciplinary design team, supporting the delivery of large-scale power transmission projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and reviewing technical design solutions within a high-performing engineering environment.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to nationally significant infrastructure projects, working closely with electrical, civil, and mechanical disciplines. The role will be predominantly office-based (Manchester), with occasional site visits as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and review detailed technical solutions for auxiliary electrical systems on high-voltage substation projects, including:
Small power and lighting systems
Fire detection and alarm systems
Security, CCTV, and access control systems
Ensure all designs meet client requirements, industry standards, and legal obligations.
Evaluate and provide feedback on client specifications and enquiry documents.
Approve technical specifications both pre- and post-contract award.
Review supplier design documentation at both tender and delivery stages.
Lead technical reviews of subcontractor design packages, ensuring compliance with project and industry standards.
Collaborate with project planners to support work package delivery, including input into programme schedules and risk registers.
Support cross-disciplinary resourcing needs in conjunction with Mechanical Building Services engineers.
Take ownership of workload, ensuring delivery to agreed timescales and budgets.
Support junior engineers and promote professional development across the team.
Key Requirements:
HNC/HND or Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services.
Certified to BS7671 (18th Edition).
Proven experience delivering electrical building services designs in an industrial or infrastructure environment.
Competency in Dialux, Amtech and/or Hevacomp.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
Strong understanding of UK electrical design standards and industry best practice.
Excellent organisational, time management, and communication skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable (Not Essential):
City & Guilds qualifications (e.g. Electrical Installation, Inspection & Testing).
Experience preparing Scope of Services documents for consultancy engagements.
Contract awareness and understanding of commercial deliverables.
Willingness to undertake ongoing training to stay current with evolving standards and technologies.
