This client is seeking a Senior Operational Technology (OT) Engineer / Technician to join our Engineering team in Lincoln. This is a hands-on, build-focused role supporting the modernisation and upgrade of Small Gas Turbines.
This position is not a desk-based cyber security or IT compliance role. We are looking for someone who is comfortable physically building, configuring, and commissioning industrial hardware and HMI systems, while applying cybersecurity principles in real-world operational environments.
If your experience is rooted in industrial control systems, OT environments, and practical hardware build and testing, we want to hear from you.
The Role
Working as part of the Engineering team, you will be responsible for the build, configuration, development, testing, and support of industrial Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems, covering both hardware and software. These systems form a critical part of Siemens Energy turbine upgrade projects and are deployed into live industrial environments worldwide.
You will work closely with Project Execution and Field Service teams to ensure systems are built correctly, tested thoroughly, and commissioned successfully.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-on System Build & Configuration
Physically build, configure, and test standardized HMI systems on:
Industrial PCs
Windows-based servers and client endpoints
Install and configure engineering and HMI software, including:
AVEVA InTouch
FactoryTalk Optix
Siemens WinCC / PCS 7
OT Cybersecurity Implementation (Practical)
Apply cybersecurity measures directly to OT systems, including:
Windows OS hardening
Endpoint security solutions
Application whitelisting
Secure backup and recovery configurations
Implement security in line with industrial standards as part of the build, not just documentation or compliance activities.
Industrial Networking
Configure and test industrial networking components, including:
Industrial firewalls
Managed switches
Secure OT network architectures
Engineering & Delivery Support
Develop and maintain work instructions and build documentation
Create and maintain engineering information databases
Support the Project Execution team to improve quality, consistency, and on-time delivery
Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues identified during factory testing
Provide technical support to Field Service teams during commissioning and site deployment
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Degree-qualified or equivalent professional experience in:
Control Systems Engineering
Computer Science
Automation Engineering
Operational Technology or related engineering discipline
Proven, hands-on experience in Operational Technology (OT) environments, specifically:
Physical build and configuration of industrial hardware systems
Windows OS installation, configuration, and hardening in industrial settings
Experience working directly with industrial HMI and control systems, such as:
PCS 7
AVEVA InTouch
FactoryTalk Optix
Rockwell / Allen Bradley ControlLogix
Highly Desirable Experience
Practical experience with industrial cybersecurity standards, applied in live systems:
IEC 62443
NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF)
EU Cyber Resilience Act
Familiarity with Sarda systems or similar industrial platforms
Experience configuring and supporting industrial networks
Working knowledge of configuration and change management tools
A systems engineering mindset with a focus on continuous product improvement
Experience supporting commissioning or field deployment activities
Who This Role Is For
This role is ideal for someone who:
Has real-world OT engineering experience, not purely IT or governance-based cybersecurity
Enjoys working hands-on with hardware, software, and industrial systems
Understands how cybersecurity is implemented practically in OT environments
Is comfortable supporting systems from build through to commissioning
Candidates whose experience is limited to desk-based IT, cyber compliance, or policy-focused roles without hands-on OT exposure are unlikely to be a fit for this position.
