Global EHS Senior Director

Location: China 


The Global EHS Senior Director will lead the development and execution of a world-class EHS strategy across a multinational renewable energy and advanced manufacturing organization. This role will have enterprise-level responsibility spanning renewable energy portfolios, heavy manufacturing, EPC project delivery, and global field operations, supporting rapid international growth and operational scale-up.


Key Responsibilities

Global EHS Strategy & Governance

  • Develop and own the global EHS management strategy aligned with international best practices and business growth objectives.
  • Analyze global and regional EHS regulations, emerging sustainability requirements, and industry benchmarks across renewable energy, manufacturing, and project delivery environments.
  • Define enterprise-level EHS governance frameworks, organizational structures, and multi-year roadmaps to achieve world-class EHS performance.

Risk Management & Accident Prevention

  • Lead the top-level design and digitalization of global EHS management systems, governance processes, and tools.
  • Embed safety, environmental, and occupational health controls into core business processes across R&D, manufacturing, construction, commissioning, and O&M activities.
  • Design and oversee second-line audits, assurance programs, and continuous improvement mechanisms.
  • Drive systematic learning from incidents, near misses, and audit findings to continuously strengthen preventive controls and standards.

Operational Execution & Performance Excellence

  • Own the global EHS KPI framework, including annual target setting, cascading objectives, performance monitoring, and executive reporting.
  • Ensure consistent execution of EHS standards across manufacturing facilities, construction sites, and field operations worldwide.
  • Promote a strong EHS culture focused on leadership accountability, proactive risk prevention, and continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & External Engagement

  • Act as a global EHS Center of Excellence (CoE), delivering training, certification, and capability-building programs for critical roles.
  • Partner with R&D, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, EPC/project teams, and service organizations on high-risk and high-impact EHS initiatives.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with regulators, government authorities, and relevant industry bodies.

Global Team Leadership & Innovation

  • Lead and develop a geographically dispersed global EHS team.
  • Build succession pipelines and future-ready EHS capabilities to support long-term growth.
  • Drive efficiency and performance improvements through digital platforms, data analytics, automation, and emerging EHS technologies.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or above (engineering, science, or related disciplines preferred).
  • 15+ years of progressive EHS experience, including leadership in complex, multinational or multi-site environments.
  • Strong expertise across safety, health, environment, and sustainability within renewable energy, heavy manufacturing, EPC, or industrial sectors.
  • Proven experience implementing and managing ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 systems.
  • 8+ years of senior management experience, including cross-country and multicultural team leadership.
  • Strategic, values-driven leader with high integrity and a proactive approach to risk management.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and enterprise program leadership skills.
