YOUR NEW COMPANY
You’ll be joining a specialist building services consultancy that designs and delivers critical environments for global clients, with a strong footprint in data centres and complex infrastructure. Over the past few years the headcount and project portfolio have grown significantly across Ireland and the UK, and this role sits in a smart buildings function that is winning more large-scale work across EMEA.
You’ll be based from either Dublin or Birmingham on a hybrid pattern, with offices positioned for straightforward commuting and regular collaboration with project teams and clients. This is a key moment to join as they refine and scale their security engineering offering, giving you a real voice in how standards, tooling, and team structure evolve over the next few years.
YOUR NEW ROLE
You’ll join as the go-to Physical Security Design Manager, leading a security engineering design team that sits alongside MEP, IT, and construction specialists. You’ll manage a portfolio of data centre and other critical infrastructure projects at any one time, making sure designs are robust, compliant, and delivered on time.
You’ll own the technical direction for physical security: defining standards and methodologies, shaping design approaches, and ensuring systems are properly integrated with wider IT and network infrastructure. You’ll coordinate multidisciplinary teams, mentor security engineers, and be the person clients turn to when they need clear, practical answers on risk, threat modelling, and security strategy.
Day to day, you’ll lead the design of access control, CCTV/VMS, intrusion detection, perimeter protection and security command platforms for high-security environments, particularly large-scale data centres. You’ll also play a visible role in business development, supporting proposals, bids and client relationships as the security service line grows, within a culture that genuinely backs learning and accreditation. Over time, you’ll shape a recognised centre of excellence for physical security design and position yourself as a technical and people leader in this space.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
You’ll bring around 8+ years’ experience in security engineering design, ideally gained on data centres, critical infrastructure, commercial, healthcare or pharma projects where reliability and resilience really matter. You’ve already led or managed engineering or design teams and are comfortable running multiple complex projects at once.
You understand modern physical security systems in depth, from access control and CCTV/VMS to intrusion detection, perimeter protection and command-and-control platforms, and you know how to integrate them cleanly with IT and network infrastructure. That technical breadth is matched by a solid grasp of EN, ISO and BS standards, along with practical experience turning risk assessments and threat models into buildable engineering solutions.
Desirables include a relevant degree (Engineering, IT, Security Engineering or similar) plus certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CPP, PSP or equivalent industry recognitions. It’s also advantageous if you’ve supported bids, service development, or wider business growth in a consultancy or contractor setting. You’ll thrive here if you enjoy mentoring others, engaging senior stakeholders with confidence, and bringing a calm, commercially aware approach to complex design decisions.
WHAT YOU’LL GET IN RETURN
Your salary will be competitive and aligned to your experience, with a full-time, permanent contract and hybrid working from either Dublin or Birmingham. You’ll have flexible working times plus annual leave on top of public holidays so you can properly switch off.
You’ll also receive a pension scheme, paid professional subscription, support toward chartership, regular training, mentoring and even further college support if you want it. Practical perks such as travel expense coverage, travel tax or bike-to-work schemes, and paid statutory leaves are built in, and the benefits stand out because they are backed by clear progression pathways and access to some of the most experienced engineers in the sector.
