Job Title: Senior Electrical Substation Design Engineer
Location: Tampa, FL – Remote/Hybrid
Duration: 12 Months | Contract-to-Hire
Pay Rate: $62 – $91/hr
We’re seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Substation Design Engineer to lead the design and development of utility-scale power systems. This role focuses on substation design and supports projects across transmission, distribution, and renewable energy infrastructure. The position offers flexibility with remote or hybrid work arrangements based in the Tampa area.
Electrical System Design: Lead the engineering and design of medium to high voltage electrical power systems, including load flow, short circuit, grounding, transformer, and cable sizing studies.
Technical Drawing & Modeling: Prepare and review detailed electrical drawings—layouts, elevations, installation details, and conduit/cable tray systems—utilizing 3D design tools.
Equipment Specification & Evaluation: Develop technical specifications for electrical equipment, review vendor proposals, and assess engineering documentation.
Project Leadership: Manage multi-disciplinary design projects, coordinating across internal teams and clients to deliver high-quality, code-compliant solutions.
Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs adhere to industry codes, safety standards, and best engineering practices.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
10+ years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, with a strong focus on utility substation design.
Expertise in power distribution and transmission systems design (medium/high voltage).
Proven experience with grounding, load flow, short circuit analysis, and equipment sizing.
Proficient in developing comprehensive electrical design packages including layout and installation drawings.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
Experience in the specification and evaluation of electrical equipment and vendor submittals.
Knowledge of renewable energy systems (solar, wind) and HVDC technologies is highly preferred.
Proficiency with 3D design software for electrical systems.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the U.S. strongly preferred.
