Talent Stories Headshots

Martina Chongtham joined Spencer Ogden in 2018 and worked in recruitment for 6 years before this. During her time at Spencer Ogden, she has received three promotions (Principal Consultant, Executive Consultant, and Senior Executive Consultant) and in 2021 she was APAC’s Top Biller. Here’s what she has to say about her time at Spencer Ogden.

What initially attracted you to recruitment and why did you choose to work at SO?

I had a few friends who worked in recruitment, and they always spoke very positively about the industry. After doing some research, I came across Spencer Ogden. They seemed to have a good commission structure and give their consultants the ability to take control of their own career paths. They also looked like they had a great culture.

My interview was very positive, and I came away feeling excited about the prospect of starting my career at SO.

Is there any advice you can offer to consultants looking to take the next step in their careers?

Keep your head down and focus on what you have and want to achieve. My advice would be to speak up if nothing goes their way, SO always listens and implements towards consultants and company interests.

How did your manager help you achieve this promotion?

I've been lucky enough to have managers who are very trusting and don't micromanage, which works very well for my way of working. We have an internal tracking system that tracks our success. Even when the numbers don’t look impressive, as long as youre showing professionalism and you’re continually putting in the work, this won’t go unrecognised.

What training has SO provided to support your personal growth to date?

In my opinion, SO is the best company when it comes to training for both graduates and Senior Consultants. During my time at Spencer Ogden, I have received Emerging leader, MPD trainings.

Recruitment has its challenges - how do you stay motivated?

Honestly my pay cheque. You will forget the challenges.
