Construction Site Manager – Solar (Contract)

About the Role
Spencer Ogden is supporting a key client in the renewable energy sector to recruit an experienced Construction Site Manager for a utility-scale solar project in South Africa.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will take ownership of site delivery, ensuring construction activities are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. You’ll play a critical role in driving project success while acting as the key interface between the client, contractors, and site teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee all on-site construction activities across civil, mechanical, and electrical scopes
Manage and coordinate construction managers, subcontractors, and site teams
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget
Provide technical support and guidance to clients and on-site teams
Interpret construction drawings and schematics (civil, structural, electrical)
Drive compliance with safety regulations and company standards, including leading safety meetings and reporting
Support project planning activities including sequencing, manpower planning, and material management
Monitor progress and provide daily/weekly reporting on performance, risks, and site activity
Maintain strong stakeholder communication across project managers, engineers, and clients
Ensure quality control across all phases of construction
Train and support site teams and subcontractors
What We’re Looking For
5+ years’ experience in construction site management
Proven experience delivering turnkey projects
Strong background in utility-scale solar projects (essential)
Experience across:
Civil works (foundations, piling)
Mechanical installation (mounting structures)
Electrical installation (highly desirable)
Strong understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems
Experience operating heavy plant and site equipment
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Track record of delivering projects on schedule and within budget
Strong commitment to health & safety
Willingness to travel extensively (up to 100%)
Afrikaans language skills preferred
