Overview
Spencer Ogden is supporting a leading energy client in the recruitment of a Project Engineer – Equipment Classification for a major HVDC project based in Berlin.
This role will focus on planning, coordinating, and executing equipment classification, item designation, and equipment tagging across HVDC design work packages. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams, suppliers, contractors, and customer stakeholders to ensure consistent and compliant data management across the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Develop in-depth knowledge of item designation standards (e.g. RDS-PP, NKS, IEC-based systems)
Plan, design, implement, and validate item designation solutions aligned with project and customer requirements
Create, process, and maintain item designations in accordance with project plans
Manage and maintain equipment/item registers (databases and Excel), ensuring high data quality, consistency, and traceability
Act as technical owner of the asset register and system breakdown structure
Oversee the full lifecycle of item designation data: collection, validation, delivery, archival, and disposal
Coordinate with engineering teams and project management to align data practices and ensure smooth implementation
Maintain structured and auditable documentation of processes and deliverables
Interface with customers and suppliers to manage technical requirements, schedules, and deliverables
Reporting Line
You will report directly to the Project Engineering Director and Project Information Manager within the HVDC project structure.
Required Qualifications
Experience in:
System Breakdown Structures (SBS)
Asset Registers
Item designation and equipment classification across multi-disciplinary engineering systems (HV, LV, automation, electrical distribution)
Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to engineers, customers, and suppliers
Degree (Master’s preferred) from an accredited institution or equivalent experience with at least 2+ years in a relevant role
Advanced proficiency in Excel and engineering database tools
Strong documentation, planning, and execution skills
Language Requirements
English: Mandatory
German: Fluent (required due to customer interface)
