Role Objective
We are seeking a proactive, flexible consultant to support offshore wind farm projects in our clients portfolio. You will deliver high-quality power system studies primarily in PSS/E (RMS/steady-state)
,
PSS / E and PSCAD (EMT), collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and adapt to evolving project priorities and workloads.
Key Responsibilities
You will support projects at various phases (development, design, execution, and operation) by conducting studies and providing grid-connection support. Scope includes:
Develop, integrate, and validate EMT and RMS models for relevant assets (e.g., WTG, plant controller/PPC, HVAC/HVDC interfaces, STATCOM/SVC as applicable).
Plan and execute grid compliance and design studies in PSS/E (load flow, short circuit where applicable, dynamic RMS performance, contingencies, sensitivity studies).
Plan and execute EMT studies in PSCAD (faults and disturbances, control interactions, protection-related phenomena, insulation coordination, energization, converter/control performance, harmonic/transient behaviour as relevant).
Work with vendor/OEM models: coordinate provisioning, model validation, parameterisation, updates, version control, and fit-for-purpose application in studies.
Produce clear, audit-ready documentation for internal review and external submission (e.g., grid code evidence packs, study reports, model validation notes, assumptions and limitations).
Summarise findings and recommend mitigations, ensuring technical quality aligned with methodologies and QA processes across multiple projects and stakeholders.
Engagement Terms
Degree in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering (BEng/MSc/PhD) or equivalent experience.
Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience with PSCAD for EMT studies (including relevant add-ons/modules and analysis workflows).
Strong, proven experience with PSS/E covering steady-state and RMS dynamic analyses for grid compliance and design work.
Demonstrated experience working with vendor-supplied models (confidential models, black-box components) and parameterisation for compliance evidence.
Scripting/automation skills for study execution and post-processing (e.g., Python for PSS®E, MATLAB/Python for result handling; tooling to improve repeatability and QA).
Experience coordinating with OEMs for model delivery, validation, and updates; strong data confidentiality practices.
Strong communication skills, able to produce concise technical reports and stakeholder-ready material.
Ability to work independently while following established methodologies, documentation standards, and QA processes.
Strong interpersonal skills and good ability to engage and work in and as part of a team.
Client will supply a laptop and all necessary software licenses and access (including PSS/E and PSCAD as required).
No additional certifications required.
No travel required; the role is fully remote.
Contract basis, billed per hour or per day
Flexible allocation subject to project demands and priorities.
