Spencer Ogden is supporting a leading organisation in the energy and infrastructure sector in the search for an experienced Project Buyer – Subcontracting to join on a contract basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an independent contractor to work on complex substation and grid infrastructure projects across France, Europe, and Africa, contributing to key energy transition programmes.

The Role

As Project Buyer – Subcontracting, you will take full ownership of the end-to-end procurement of subcontracted services, including civil works, installation, and commissioning.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure subcontracting strategies are commercially competitive, technically compliant, and aligned with project delivery objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Tendering

Develop and implement subcontracting strategies aligned with project scope and risk profile

Manage RFQs and competitive tendering processes, including scope definition, BoQs, and evaluation criteria

Evaluate subcontractors based on cost, quality, delivery capability, and technical expertise

Conduct detailed bid analysis and benchmarking

Contract Negotiation

Lead or support commercial and contractual negotiations

Negotiate key terms including pricing, milestones, liabilities, warranties, and change mechanisms

Finalise subcontract agreements and ensure compliance prior to award

Project Execution Support

Support subcontractor mobilisation and site readiness

Monitor performance across cost, schedule, HSE, and quality KPIs

Coordinate interfaces between subcontractors and internal stakeholders

Manage deviations, NCRs, and corrective actions

Claims & Risk Management

Manage variations and claims, assessing cost and schedule impacts

Maintain contractual documentation to support risk mitigation and dispute avoidance

Identify procurement risks and implement mitigation strategies

Close-Out

Support subcontract completion and contractual close-out

Oversee warranty and defect liability follow-up

Conduct supplier performance evaluations and capture lessons learned

Candidate Profile

Experience & Education

Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Business, or similar

7–8 years’ experience in procurement of services or works, ideally within EPC, construction, or energy projects

Skills & Expertise

Strong subcontracting and project procurement experience

Proven contract negotiation and administration capability

Strong commercial awareness with cost and risk analysis skills

Experience within industrial or construction environments

Knowledge of international contracts and Incoterms

Professional level of English
