My client is currently looking for an experienced Power Systems Engineer to join and expand their Grid Team, working alongside the Grid Development Manager. The client is a renewable energy IPP company with fully integrated development capabilities and it's head office in London. The main focus is developing renewable energy power plants across the United Kingdom with the help of their highly experienced management team and partners to allow them to deliver quality, bankable renewable power assets. Their focus is on the development of large-scale solar, wind and hybrid energy storage projects. Role: In this role you will be working closely alongside the grid manager, and if required the key management team members and land acquisition team. Supporting the Grid team in identifying and securing grid capacity both on the distribution level and national transmission level from 11kV up to 400kV network for its large-scale solar, wind and BESS projects. The position is remote and requires up to 10% travel to project locations. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: SCADA Controls: Subject Matter Expert for SCADA Control development, commissioning, and testing Thorough understanding of control requirements for each type of project (PV Solar, PV + BESS, Standalone BESS, Wind, etc) and implementation of control logic to achieve required plant operations taking into account requirements from the Off-Taker, Interconnecting Utility, ISO/RTO, and others. When multiple SCADA Vendors are participating in a single project, coordinate all control requirements/responsibilities amongst the various vendors to ensure logic development is understood and coordinated between the various Vendors Understanding of Substation design taking into account static reactive resources within the substation (capacitor/reactor banks) and other devices affecting SCADA controls (i.e. On-Load Tap Changers). Coordinate with SCADA Vendors to ensure control logic meets all grid code requirements (LGIA, PPA, NERC Inverter Based Resource Guidelines, IEEE 2800, etc) Drive coordination with Utilities and ISOs/RTOs to develop SCADA Control logic (both Real and Reactive power controls) that meet local area Grid Code requirements. Serve as the company SME to utilities that may be unfamiliar with Renewable Resources or concerned about their impact to the grid. Drive continuous improvement with various SCADA Vendors with the goal of our company being the industry leader in SCADA controls. Areas of continuous improvement include designing controls per industry recommendations/guidelines (NERC IBR Guidelines, IEEE 2800, lessons learned from Projects, etc) Develop and document company Standards for SCADA Controls and develop SCADA Controls philosophy documents Review and oversee HMI build-out to ensure all applicable pages are available in the HMI, all equipment and associated operations parameters are displayed in a logical/functional way, HMI controls are intuitive, and HMI is consistent amongst projects. Where multiple SCADA Vendors are involved in a project, coordinate various Vendors to ensure all control requirements are accounted for in the HMI. Drive commissioning controls testing and create/obtain documentation showing completion of testing, any required corrective actions, and company final acceptance of test results Review, provide feedback, and act as approver for contractor project deliverable items including: Control test plan/procedure, Controls Narrative, SCADA PPC/MPPC testing reports, and others as required by the SCADA Project Engineer Provide input to project metering design to ensure controls are coordinated with project metering.
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate SCADA Execution Manager to lead a team of SCADA Project Engineers. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the execution of the SCADA process on a variety of utility-scale and distributed generation (DG) renewable projects, including solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and hybrid power plants. Working closely with various SCADA vendors, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms, equipment manufacturers, utilities, and internal teams, you will ensure compliance with grid integration and operational requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced manager to manage a team and participate in the technical engineering aspects of SCADA design and integration.Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Manage a team of SCADA Project Engineers: Oversee and provide technical supervision for the implementation of SCADA on multiple utility-scale renewable projects involving different technologies and architectures (solar, wind, BESS, hybrid, etc.). Project management: Maintain project awareness, mitigate risks, and assist in resolving technical and contractual challenges to ensure timely completion of the SCADA Scope of Work (SOW). Development of SCADA standards: Contribute to the development and maintenance of SCADA execution standards, including updating the SCADA SOW for submission with Request for Proposals (RFPs) to bidding EPCs. Standardization and process improvement: Establish standards and processes to ensure consistent execution of SCADA across multiple teams of SCADA Project Engineers. Team management: Effectively manage the SCADA Execution Project Engineering team, ensuring appropriate staffing levels for current and upcoming projects. Collaborate with the SCADA Development Engineer to assign projects to the suitable SCADA Project Engineers. Cross-team collaboration: Work closely with various teams, including Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Interconnection, Development, Array Engineering, and High Voltage Engineering, to provide SCADA expertise and advice in advancing projects through different lifecycle stages. Lessons Learned and continuous improvement: Participate in Lessons Learned discussions and incorporate feedback into future SCADA SOW documents and RFPs to address scope gaps and enhance project execution. While not directly involved in individual projects, you will engage in the following activities with SCADA vendors, integrators, EPCs, equipment manufacturers, utilities, and internal teams: Review internal exhibits and prepare Scopes of Work (SOW) for SCADA bids, clearly delineating responsibilities and identifying scope gaps.Review and approve proposals.Collaborate with Telecoms, Information, and Operational Technology teams to ensure appropriate equipment selection, project networking, and reliable connectivity.Collaborate with HV/Substation engineering and management teams to ensure proper substation SCADA and Meter Integration, including the development of conceptual meter schemes for revenue and control purposes.Collaborate with Array Engineering and management teams to ensure effective SCADA integration for BESS, inverters, trackers, meteorological sensors, and other relevant components.Review and approve IFA, IFP, IFC, and As-Built SCADA Design packages, encompassing bills of material (BOM) and SCADA system designs, device and network spreadsheets, block and network diagrams.Create and review point lists in collaboration with SCADA vendors, utilities/ISOs/PPAs, equipment manufacturers, and other subsystem integrators.Develop and review Power Plant Controller (PPC) control logic narratives and schemes to ensure compliance with grid integration and operational requirements, encompassing controls for MW Curtailment and Charge/Discharge schemes for BESS, Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), Frequency Response, Substation Controls, PV-BESS Hybrid controls, PV Tracker Controls, and various other subsystems. Skills and Experience: 5+ years
