We are partnered with a utility-scale solar and storage developer in Sydney, seeking an experienced Lead Power Systems Engineer to join their team. In this role you will provide technical leadership and expertise for Solar PV and Energy Storage projects, ensuring successful grid connections and optimising project configurations. This senior position offers project management and leadership responsibilities, presenting an exciting opportunity to shape the future of renewable energy!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with development colleagues to identify suitable locations for projects using power systems analysis and congestion modeling.
  • Specify high-level design for Solar PV, BESS, and Hybrid projects to optimise configurations.
  • Manage the Connection Application Process (R0) for multiple projects across NEM jurisdictions.
  • Conduct Model Acceptance, Benchmarking, and GPS compliance studies using relevant software packages.
  • Manage relationships with project stakeholders, NSPs, AEMO, contractors, and OEMs.
  • Appoint and manage external power systems consultants for Connection Application Packages.
  • Negotiate optimised connection strategies with NSPs for Solar PV, BESS, and Hybrid projects.
  • Negotiate Generator Performance Standards and technical aspects of Connection Agreements.
  • Develop cost-effective project configurations and connection strategies.
  • Stay informed of industry developments and provide expert guidance to the Elgin Energy team.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Appropriate degree in Electrical/Energy Engineering/HV Power System Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years’ experience working in a connections-focused environment within an Engineering Consultancy, Project Developer, NSP, or AEMO.
  • Proven track record of success in progressing wind/solar/BESS connections with NSPs and AEMO.
  • Evidence of working successfully on multiple projects to demanding deadlines.
  • Site experience in Solar PV plants and/or high-voltage substations is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the NER Chapter 5 process with a proven track record of success.
  • Excellent knowledge of power systems analysis software packages, including PSS/E, PSCAD, and DigSilent PowerFactory, along with Python automation skills.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical design of Solar PV plants, BESS, and grid connection methodologies.
  • Familiarity with HV electrical equipment, control systems, SCADA, protection, and metering.
  • Ability to manage external consultants for the delivery of design and study packages.
