Intellectual Property Lead

Contract: 12 months (with view to extend) – Inside IR35

Location: Bristol or London (hybrid working available)

Closing date: 17 February 2026

Spencer Ogden are working in partnership with a major nuclear infrastructure project to recruit an Intellectual Property Lead for one of the UK’s most significant and high-profile energy programmes.

This is a rare opportunity to join a nationally important nuclear new build project at a pivotal stage of delivery, playing a key role in governance, compliance, and technical data management that underpins the UK’s Net Zero ambitions.

About the Project

This major nuclear infrastructure project is a cornerstone of the UK’s long-term energy strategy, delivering reliable, low-carbon electricity at scale. The project has secured planning approval and government financing support and is now in active construction, progressing towards long-term operation.

Once complete, the project will provide dependable electricity to millions of homes for decades, supporting energy security and the UK’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050.

The Role

The project utilises design and engineering data originally developed under an existing nuclear programme. As a separate legal entity, access to this information is governed by a formal Intellectual Property Licensing Agreement (IPLA).

As the Intellectual Property Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring licensed technical data is managed effectively, securely, and in full compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations. This is a highly collaborative role, working across engineering, legal, IT, and supply chain teams to support safe and efficient project delivery.

The position is well suited to experienced project or service managers operating in regulated environments who are looking to broaden their scope into governance and IP oversight. Full training will be provided on IP-specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Define, implement, and maintain governance frameworks for licensed technical data

Ensure IPLA processes are clearly documented, embedded, and consistently followed

Act as the primary point of contact for all IP-related queries, escalating complex matters as required

Support contractual compliance while enabling effective project delivery

Coordinate across Legal, Engineering, IT, and Supply Chain to resolve IP and data-related challenges

Represent IP in audits, governance forums, and assurance activities

Drive continuous improvement of IP tools, workflows, and service models

Enable secure, traceable transfer of licensed data between programme entities

Skills & Experience

Essential:

Experience within the nuclear industry or a UK regulated environment

Strong project or service management background with a focus on process improvement

Experience of governance, risk management, or delivery in complex, regulated projects

Ability to interpret and apply contractual IP terms with multi-disciplinary teams

Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills

Confident decision-making in ambiguous or evolving environments

Excellent communication, facilitation, and organisational skills

Desirable:

Experience managing compliance portfolios on large engineering or infrastructure programmes

Familiarity with IP management systems or PLM tools (e.g. Teamcenter)

Understanding of IP governance and ONR regulatory frameworks

Project Management qualifications or equivalent practical experience

Why Apply?

Work on one of the UK’s largest and most strategically important nuclear projects

Play a key role in shaping IP governance on a nationally significant programme

Flexible hybrid working from Bristol or London

Inside IR35 contract with long-term extension potential

Be at the forefront of the UK’s energy transition and Net Zero delivery
