In the ever-evolving landscape of corporate responsibility and sustainability, Spencer Ogden is making significant strides towards a greener, more environmentally conscious future. In 2023, we partnered with Terrapass, to oversee our ongoing carbon neutral accreditation and contributing to a sustainable planet.

A Shared Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

Terrapass shares our passion for environmental responsibility, making them the perfect partner in our mission towards carbon neutrality. Together, we've carefully chosen projects that not only align with our company's purpose but also resonate with our PACE values. The result? Spencer Ogden proudly retains its status as a 100% carbon-neutral business.

Our dedication to environmental responsibility has yielded impressive results. Since the inception of our carbon offsetting journey, we've successfully offset a staggering 750,000 kg of CO2. This milestone is not just a number; it's a testament to our commitment to sustainability.

A Collaborative Effort: Choosing the Right Projects

Our journey towards carbon neutrality has been a collective effort, guided by our brilliant SO Sustainability team. Every member of the Spencer Ogden family participated in selecting projects that make a real impact on the environment and communities worldwide.

Katingan Peatland Project:

One of our chosen projects is the Katingan Peatland Project, which focuses on preserving Indonesian peatland ecosystems. This initiative not only benefits biodiversity, including populations of orangutans, but also provides crucial support to local communities dependent on the land.

Niht Topaiyo Project:

Another project close to our hearts is the Niht Topaiyo Project, dedicated to safeguarding Papua New Guinean rainforests. Beyond preserving carbon storage, this endeavor enhances local communities through investments in infrastructure, ultimately combating poverty at its roots.

A-Gas Voluntary Emissions Reduction Project:

The A-Gas Voluntary Emissions Reduction Project tackles the pressing issue of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). These potent greenhouse gases have played a role in creating a hole in the ozone layer. This project intervenes by preventing over 1 million metric tons of HFCs from being released into the atmosphere annually. How? By recovering and repurposing used HFCs from refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.

Our Ongoing Commitment to Sustainable Energy

Our journey towards sustainability doesn't stop with carbon offsetting. We've taken significant steps to transition our offices to renewable energy sources. One key initiative involves the purchase of location-specific Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), ensuring that our energy consumption in 2022 was sourced from renewable energy.

One shining example of our commitment to renewable energy is our Denver office, which now operates on 100% wind energy from local wind farms. This initiative serves as a testament to our dedication to sustainable practices, and we're on track to extend this effort to all Spencer Ogden offices.

Looking Towards Net Zero by 2030

While our achievements thus far are noteworthy, our vision extends even further. We're on a path towards Net Zero by 2030, an ambitious goal that underscores our commitment to environmental responsibility.

Our pledge to annual carbon offsetting is steering us closer to this target, and we believe that making a concerted effort to offset our carbon footprint annually will be instrumental in reaching Net Zero. Together, with the collective efforts of our global team and partners like Terrapass, we can make a substantial impact.
